May 2019 saw the inauguration of a new state-of-the-art 3T MRI at Surrey’s Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre by British Columbia Premier John Horgan.
Bouygues Energies & Services successfully project managed the $2.2 million project which includes the installation and commissioning of the MRI as part of its responsibilities under the P3 project.
The new MRI suite will be able to deliver over 5,000 exams this year, providing people in Surrey with access to faster, better health care closer to home.
Three key aspects of the project were :
- Communication : the Bouygues Energies & Services project management team were communicating with up to 10 different clinical departments in addition to architects, consultants and, of course, the client.
- Preparation : in order to install the MRI, a layer of the exterior wall was removed, allowing a 50 tonne crane to swing the magnet into place, all while coordinating traffic on the surrounding roads.
- Commissioning : the MRI suite must pass a thorough inspection to ensure all clinical requirements for the suite are met.
